Wireless Environment Announces Battery-Backed LED Lamp Socket for Emergency Lighting

Startup specialty-lighting manufacturer Wireless Environment is using Lightfair International to launch the SwitchSense Bulb Adaptor that delivers a novel approach to emergency lighting. Designed for use with LED or compact fluorescent (CFL) replacement lamps, the adaptor can power lamps with a standard Edison base with batteries that are activated in the event of power failure to a building.

EPA Publishes the Final Draft of the Energy Star Lamps Specification

Intended to become effective September 1, 2014, the final draft of the Lamps V1.0 specification includes refinement of dimming requirements and other minor changes from draft 4 that was recently circulated for comments.

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced the final draft of the Energy Star Lamps V1.0 specification that has been under development for more than two years. The changes from draft 4 that had been published this spring are relatively minor, and the new specification is slated to take effect September 1, 2014. T5 And T8 Linear Fluorescent Lamp Shipments Surge During First Quarter

National Electrical Manufacturers Association’s (NEMA) T5 and T8 linear fluorescent lampt5-t8 indexes surged upward 6.3 and 15.7 percent on a year-over-year basis (y/y), respectively, during 2013Q1. Moreover, the T8 index value of 120.2 was the second highest in the history of the series. Meanwhile, the index reading of 173.9 for T5 lamps was the highest since 2011. Not surprisingly, the index for T12 lamp shipments continued to diminish, posting a decrease of 38.9 percent (y/y), settling at a value of 36.5 for the quarter. Continue reading

DOE Releases Report On LED Environmental Testing

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has released a new study addressing the potential environmental impacts from landfill disposal of three light-source technologies used in residential homes: incandescent, compact fluorescent (CFL), and LED.
