Wireless Environment Announces Battery-Backed LED Lamp Socket for Emergency Lighting

Startup specialty-lighting manufacturer Wireless Environment is using Lightfair International to launch the SwitchSense Bulb Adaptor that delivers a novel approach to emergency lighting. Designed for use with LED or compact fluorescent (CFL) replacement lamps, the adaptor can power lamps with a standard Edison base with batteries that are activated in the event of power failure to a building.

Outdoor Lighting: DOE Funds More SSL, MaxLite Post-Top LEDs, Cree and Projects

The US Department of Energy (DOE) will enable LED street light upgrades in five metropolitan areas under the new High-Performance Outdoor Lighting Accelerator program announced by President Obama. In outdoor products, Cree has combined a customized LED and unique optics in an area-lighting fixture while MaxLite has announced new solid-state lighting (SSL) retrofit kits for post-top fixtures. Moving to projects, Cambridge, MA and Honolulu, HI have announced major street-light upgrade plans with the former having already begun deployment. Continue reading

GE Lighting Talks Controls and Networks at Lightfair International 2013

GE Lighting was one of several companies to address lighting controls and networks on the first day of Lightfair International (LFI) which again looked more like an LED event more than a general lighting show. GE announced that it was working with the city of Los Angeles to install new 6LoWPAN (IPv6 over low-power wireless personal area network) network nodes on the city’s growing inventory of LED-based street lights.
